Heartburn is the burning sensation that arises in the chest and may radiate up to the throat. Heartburn is the most common symptom during pregnancy. The problem of heartburn arises because of acid reflux. In some cases, it may happen because of physical and hormonal changes during pregnancy. Some women may experience heartburn in life for the first time during pregnancy. This condition of heartburn is harmless but it causes too much discomfort especially during the third trimester of pregnancy. This uncomfortable feeling might continue until delivery with an interval of time. In some cases, this problem will end after delivery while some may experience even after delivering the baby because of too much weight gain.

1 Have small meals: Eating several small meals rather than 3-4 large meals.

2 Chew food properly: Don’t just bolt the food chew it properly. Bolting of food can lead to heartburn and indigestion.

3 Sit or stand after a meal: Do not just lie down or bend after a meal as it will raise your acid to the chest and create the problem of heartburn. So it’s better to sit or stand after the meal.

4 Don’t eat right just before bed: This is the main reason for heartburn so don’t eat just before bed.

5 Sleeping position: Keep your head and upper chest elevated at night.

6 Find your triggers: Many foods and drinks can cause you heartburn. These include juices, citrus fruits, tomatoes, mint products, carbonated drinks, spicy and fried foods. So observe the foods which create the problem of heartburn to you and find a solution to eat them in another way (i.e. fried food can be baked)

7 Wear comfortable clothes

8 Try ginger: Ginger candy can relieve your problem of heartburn.

9 Take Antacid: Take antacid with the prescription of the doctor if the problem persists.
